What Was Your First RV, 5th Wheel, Travel Trailer?

big_2001 Palomino PopUp Camper 150001There is a consensus out there among RVers that the majority of them started out RVing with a travel trailer, 5th wheel or pop-up camper to get a feel for the type of RVing that they were leaning toward after retirement. Do they remember it fondly like they would their first car, or was it something they couldn't wait to upgrade?

Most of the motorhome owners I have spoken with had an RV of some sort, small fifth-wheel, or travel trailer before they decided to upgrade to a larger, self contained rig like a Class C motorhome but RV dealers have a different opinion. They say that most of the people who buy the bigger more fancy motorhomes are first-timers and I find that hard to believe. Have you ever driven one of those monsters?

So that is the question for our readers today, did you start with a motorhome first or did you work your way up by starting first with a pop up camper, travel trailer or 5th wheel?

My first RV was a motorhome, however, George did start with a pop-up before getting a trailer and now a 5th wheel.

I have a fifth wheel too and love it!

I started camping in a VW Bus. I don't think it can really qualify as a "motorhome" since it was a weekender model with a bed, a power outlet, and no sink/stove/privy.

It is a shame VW doesn't make campers anymore…

Thanks for stopping by J, I had one of those VW buses too, wouldn't go over 50mph. A friend of mine is restoring an old Westphalia and she just loves it.
