Can the US Economy Survive an Onslaught of Baby Boomer Retirements?

More than 11,000 boomers turn 50 every single day! And what market do you think the RV industry likes to target? Baby boomers, of course! When those boomers finally reach Boom Gra La after retiring from the daily grind they rush out and either rent or buy an RV, as evidenced by the dramatic rise in numbers of baby boomers loading up their RVs and taking to the road.

Baby boomers are hitting the highways in their newly purchased traveling homes in record numbers, even in a bad economy. U.S. ownership of RVs is skyrocketing, and the trend is expected to continue upward for the forseeable future.

Our country's very first baby boomer, Kathleen Casey-Kirschling, born at two seconds after midnight on January 1st, 1946, is already cashing her retirement checks! She warns, The "Silver Tsunami" a virtual tidal wave of boomer retirees are coming!

Glasses For the RVing Baby Boomer

$8 prescription eyeglasses onlinewww.zennioptical.com
As an aging baby boomer I appreciate it when I can clearly see, without laser surgery, that means glasses and I want good ones that are inexpensive. These specs fit the bill.

Scenic Highway 87 AZ

mogollon_rimFrom Fountain Hills to Payson, AZ where I live, is one of the most beautiful drives in the southwest. Along the way are some spectacular stands of Saguaro cactus as you start a gradual climb from almost sea level to 5,000 feet, arriving in Payson and "Rim Country" an RV enthusiasts playground.

RV Country

Two lanes of divided highway route you through a pristine desert landscape of reservation, state and national forest lands undisturbed by development practically until you arrive in Payson, a community of some 15,000 full-time residents, situated among tall Ponderosa Pines. Just a 1.5 hour drive from Fountain Hills, it's a section of AZ 87 known as the Beeline Hwy, where, on any given weekend, you will see RV's, such as pop-up campers, fifth-wheels, travel trailers and motorhomes, every size and description, traveling to the Rim Country. Besides Payson, they are bound for places with names like; Strawberry, Pine, Christopher Creek, Show Low and Sunrise, and where they will find some of the best hiking, fishing, camping, cool temperatures, and scenic forests in the Grand Canyon State.

It's a steady climb from Fountain Hills to the Mt. Ord turn-off, or what is sometimes referred to as the pass, it being the highest point between Ftn Hills and Payson and where some of the larger RV's will struggle. Carry extra water, camping accessories, and take your time. Once past there it's an easy ascent to into Payson where you will find everything you need to stock the RV pantry.

Some friends kept insisting that I share some of the video that I have shot along that scenic road, specifically areas where ancient Saguaro cactus dominate the landscape, giant cactus that always look different depending on the seasons, natural light and time of day. I finally put some of my best footage together, (you still need to drive it yourself!) found some cool music to go with it, loaded it on YouTube, and I hope you enjoy it; YouTube Preview Image

Rock Your RV With The Beatles

The Beatles

Beatles Voted Best Boomer RVer Band On The Road In An RV

While on the road in my fifth-wheel travel trailer I can get WiFi just about anywhere. And when I am stopped in the RV park for the night, these Beatles videos keep me entertained. If you are as big a Beatles fan as I am you will love this site, just click on any song and watch some great Beatles videos.

I saw the Beatles in concert once in 1964 in Jacksonville. Florida at the Gator Bowl. I will never forget it, I was living in Tampa at the time and drove up to J'ville with some friends. It was the day after hurrican Dora hit and most of Jacksonville was without power. If screams from adoring fans could power a city, Jacksonville would have lit up like a Christmas tree on that night.

PS. I was fortunate to catch the Paul McCartney concert on the first stop of his new tour, Up and Coming, in Phoenix last month.  He was awesome!
